when and where?
legislation stopped the importing and use of asbestos in the UK from November 1999.
so if your home, or the one you plan to buy has been built since 2000, it will almost certainly contain no asbestos.
If it was built in the 1990s asbestos may be present in various construction materials, including roof tiles, verge tile trimmers and soffits.
In the 1980s and before, the products most likely to contain asbestos (as well as those mentioned above) are vinyl floor tiles, lino, textured coatings (eg: Artex) and some panels such as bath side and end panels.
For homes built earlier than this, other suspect materials would include guttering and downpipes, water tanks, pipe and tank insulation, loft insulation and bitumenised felt on flat roofs.
